Spring 2020

March 23 update

Dear WYSA families –

We hope this note finds you and your families well. This is new territory for all of us, and we hope the spirit of camaraderie and kindness we see in our communities continues long after the restrictions are lifted.

IFJ/WYSA leaders communicate daily with city officials. We watch the news and look at the CDC numbers. Although our start date of April 13 will be moved, we still hope to salvage a spring soccer season. We hope you agree that our young players deserve to have a sense of normalcy as soon as it is possible. We will not be releasing player rosters or practice times until we have an idea of when we will be able to start the season. We appreciate your patience.

What can you do in the meantime? Hang tight. We will try to communicate regularly as we receive updates. Go outside. Encourage your player to kick the soccer ball and work on foot skills. Remain active. Our Indiana Fire coaches have created a program for IFJ travel soccer players to continue training at home. You can access all these lessons at www.indianafirejuniors.com/training and adjust plans to meet your own child’s skill and energy level.

Parents, if you are looking at a long period at home, please consider taking the SafeSport class for coaches. Even if you are not planning to coach, this course will further your knowledge about keeping players safe on and off the field. Plus, all adults who are in contact with the players during the season are required to take this course. So if you think you might step in to help the coach, whether you’re retrieving soccer balls for overzealous teen-agers or herding a mass of U5 kittens, please consider taking the course. You can find instructions at https://www.indianafirejuniors.com/safesport.

Thank you again for signing up for the spring season. Take care of yourselves. We plan to see you on their fields again when this crisis has passed. Be well.

Spring 2020 update

Dear WYSA families -

Suffice to say, things are a bit crazy and unprecedented right now.

We will update this area as we have a better idea of what is going to happen this spring. Our top priority is getting your children back to a sense of normalcy as soon as it is safe for them. We will try to update you periodically, even if the update says we're still waiting on an update.

Be well, and please take care of yourselves and your families.

Spring 2020 Recreational Soccer

Welcome to the WYSA Spring  Recreational Soccer season. Recreational soccer is intended to be a fun experience for all players. Teams will play regular games during the season, with older teams (U9/U10 and older) playing an end-of-season tournament after they complete their regular season games. The cost is $130 for players in the U8 (second grade) and younger divisions and $150 for players in the U9 (third grade) and older divisions. Age groups are coed for U5, U6, U14 and U18.

This year, we hope to begin practices during the week of April 13. The season is scheduled to end June 14, although some age groups may finish earlier, weather permitting. Due to the high number of events at Grand Park, each age group may have a combination of weekend and weeknight games. Please check out the schedule below to ensure your child will not have a conflict with the weeknight games.

When you register, you will be able to list a night that does not work for you. Our volunteer commissioners do everything they can to honor these requests, so that you will be practicing on another night.

Coaches Always Needed!

Join your son or daughter on the pitch by helping out as a coach. All of our Rec soccer teams are coached by parent volunteers. You do not need to be an experienced coach! We will provide training and have a professional coaching director on staff at at the fields during many practice and game nights.

To volunteer as a coach, sign up at https://www.gotsport.com/asp/application/reg/?ProgramID=86026. Thank you!
